Arabic-English Custom Receipt Paper: Artwork and Proofing Checklist

Arabic-English receipt rolls need two approvals: language accuracy and production accuracy. A visually attractive PDF can still fail if Arabic letters disconnect, text direction changes, the print repeat is reversed or fixed artwork overlaps the POS system's variable fields. Use a controlled artwork, proof and device-test workflow before bulk printing.
Separate Fixed Artwork From Variable POS Content
Start by marking what the paper supplier prints and what the POS system prints at the store.
| Content type | Typical owner | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed pre-print | Paper converter | Logo, support details, campaign terms, return-policy heading |
| Variable transaction data | POS or invoicing system | Items, price, VAT data, date, transaction number |
| Generated machine element | POS or invoicing system | Transaction-specific QR code or barcode |
| Controlled version content | Buyer and converter | Store group, promotion, language or market version |
Keep a clear variable-print zone. Background tint, lines and decorative elements can reduce readability or interfere with a QR code's quiet zone. Ask the POS provider for the maximum print area and test the final receipt layout.
Prepare Arabic Text for Production
The buyer should supply final approved Arabic copy or appoint an authorized language reviewer. The converter should not guess translations or reconstruct missing text from an image.
Check these details:
- Right-to-left direction is preserved.
- Arabic letters remain connected correctly.
- Punctuation and parentheses appear in the intended order.
- Arabic and Western numerals follow the buyer's convention.
- English and Arabic baselines align as intended.
- Fonts are licensed, embedded or converted to outlines.
- Small text remains readable at the actual print size.
Review the proof at 100 percent scale and as a complete roll repeat. A cropped screenshot can hide direction and winding errors.
Define the Printing Specification
The artwork file is only one part of the order. Add colour, side, repeat and registration requirements.
The production brief should state:
- Roll width, outer diameter, core and winding.
- Print side: thermal face, back or both.
- Number of colours and approved colour references.
- Repeat length and cut or tear relationship.
- Logo size and position tolerance.
- Unprinted safe area for variable receipt data.
- Artwork revision code and version quantity.
- Packing identification for each version.
For multiple store groups, use a version matrix. Give every design a unique code and show carton quantities by code. This reduces the risk of sending the correct language to the wrong customer or location.
Our custom-printed thermal paper page explains the main project inputs for branded rolls. Final feasibility depends on artwork, equipment and order quantity.
Approve a Digital Proof and Physical Sample
The digital proof should show width, print side, unwind direction, repeat boundaries, colour separations and safe areas. The buyer's approval should identify the exact file revision.
Then produce a physical sample or representative proof. Load it into the real printer and print the longest expected receipt. Check:
- Arabic orientation when the receipt exits the device.
- Logo and fixed text position.
- No overlap with variable fields.
- QR or barcode clearance and readability.
- Ink adhesion and absence of transfer or blocking.
- Feed and cut behaviour.
- Appearance after normal handling.
If the final paper, ink, printer or artwork changes, repeat the affected approval. Do not rely on a sample made with an unrelated substrate.
Protect Artwork Quality Through Repeat Orders
Keep the approved PDF, source file, physical master sample and signed approval together. The purchase order should reference the artwork code, not only the customer name.
Require change notification before substitutions in paper, coating, ink, plate, cylinder, core or packing. For each production batch, retain samples and record the artwork version. This supports investigation if a store reports reversed text, colour variation or scanning problems.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the factory translate the Arabic receipt text?
The buyer should provide or approve the translation through a qualified reviewer. The factory can check file integrity and production layout but should not be the sole authority for legal or customer-facing language.
Should the QR code be pre-printed on the roll?
A transaction-specific QR code is normally generated by the POS or invoicing system. A fixed marketing QR code can be pre-printed when appropriate, but its purpose, destination and position must be clearly separated from invoice data.
Is a PDF proof enough for bulk approval?
It is necessary but not sufficient for higher-risk projects. A physical sample reveals winding, scale, ink, feeding and interaction with variable printer output.
